A.C.C. Systems Inc. Supplies RFID Technology as part of ScenPro's TacMedCS Program Helping the United States Navy Track Wounded in Iraq
Glen Head N.Y. (May 27, 2003)- At the request of the United States Navy and software developer ScenPro, Inc. of Richardson, Texas, A.C.C. Systems, Inc. has designed the radio frequency identification (RFID) readers that were used in the war in Iraq to more efficiently track the status and location of hundreds of wounded soldiers, airmen, prisoners of war and refugees being treated at Fleet Hospital Three. Being the North American Master Distributor for the Minec Product Line of RFID readers, A.C.C. Systems, Inc.'s engineering staff successfully re-designed and customized the readers to compliment Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Tactical Medical Coordination System (TacMedCS), allowing medical professionals to identify patients, and to update their status, location and medical information. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's engineers collaborated with the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory, or NAMRL, and Navy corpsman, who provided expertise on the requirements of their jobs and what could be done to better serve them in the field.
The Navy is replacing a manual tracking system with the new electronic system. Using A.C.C. Systems, Inc.'s newly designed handheld RFID readers as well as RFID wristbands located, tested and supplied by A.C.C. Systems, Inc. to complete the overall design package, the patient's information is read and updated as treatment is provided. The information stays with the patients as they move throughout the treatment center and is also transmitted wirelessly to an electronic patient management system, eliminating manual re-entry of data at the central computer.
According to HMC Michael Stiney, U.S. Navy, "When Fleet Hospital Three came to us at the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory (NAMRL) looking for a system that would help streamline administration, patient ID and tracking while engaged in Iraq, we knew that TacMedCS would be a most effective solution. The ability to keep important information with each patient, and to track his or her whereabouts automatically has helped medical professionals at this facility better manage patient care."
A.C.C. Systems Inc. has also provided medical tracking units for medics in the field. The system can quickly identify injured soldiers, record the treatment they receive and using the GPS and wireless capabilities of the A.C.C. Systems reader, the information is transmitted to commanding officers to aid in battlefield strategy.
A.C.C. Systems Inc. is an international distributor of RFID products for government and private industry. With A.C.C. Systems' contract manufacturing capability, custom applications such as the one used in the Navy program are designed, engineered and manufactured using RFID, GPS and Wireless technology
